Hi. Well done on a well thought out site. The weather parameters you have selected are ideal in my view and the temporal and spatial resolutions are the best available of the 'free to access' sites. One small thing, stemming from my personal laziness, it would be nice to access a personally defined default GRIB area rather than go through the graphical selection tool each time. When at sea this would reduce data download amount (and thus cost).

Dear 'RaceYachts'

Thanks for your thoughts,  we are glad you like 'most' of what we have done.  Just to clarify the situation without regard to the selection of data

When running Ugrib there is no need to be connected to the internet at all until the point when you click "Download Grib File" .  The selction of the area can all be done offline before connecting.  This was one of our main objeectives when building Ugrib.

The only actual transfer of the data is the actual weather data itself.

You can also save your area settings within the program so that you can quickly load your favourite selction criteria (area, parameters, resolution etc) without having to do it manually.

Regards

Yeah, PNGs are good too though can't do animations. I tend to copy and paste the meteogram for the week ahead and print it out for quick reference. It's surprising how acurate it is even after 6 days - the timings may have changed but the predicted weather and intensities are just spot on.

An animation of the selected area would be good as a gif and probably as separate images too for printing though if I am cruising in the same area I use the meteogram.

your service is great! I have 2 proposals:

1. add possibility to download temperature within grib files, add them to the meteogram & live data
2. in the ugrib viewer pls. show the pressure value with each isobar to identify them more easy

thanks!

Thank you for agreeing to export pictures.

BUT:

PNG is not better than GIF. It once was developed only because GIF was restriced by a software patent. The patent ceased in 2004. There ist NO reason for not using GIF today, it will match your palette pictures perfectly. So you will have NO problem with the lack of animations in PNG.
